One of our last editions of Random Reviews looked at a collection of squash matches from WCW in the 90s… so we’re going to go back there for some more nostalgia, as we look at the first edition of Monday Nitro!

This week on Random Reviews, we’re going to have a look at some good matches to get me over that 1,300 review mark!
This week on Random Reviews, we go back in the time machine to 1997, and find out some of the matches we’d have seen if we were only allowed to watch WCW Worldwide. Originally starting in the 70s, Worldwide was home to the infamous “Disney tapings”, where hours of content were taped in one evening, resulting in dead crowds by the end of it all. Let’s see what we’re in for here…
Back in the day, WCW was known for it’s flagship show – Monday Nitro – hence, the Monday Night Wars. At the peak of their popularity, WCW then created a second major weekly in January 1998, called Thunder – beating out WWE’s SmackDown by around eighteen months. This week on Random Reviews, we take a look at some of the action that graced our screens in WCW’s “B-show that tried to be an A-show”.
We’re going back to the past for this week’s Random Reviews, as I trawl the WWE Network’s archives for some matches you may have forgotten about, or probably never seen before!
Television can be a very useful tool for a professional wrestling promotion. Back in the day, it was one of the main vehicles that companies had to sell tickets to live events. As wrestling evolved, television shows became a tool to increase awareness and sell pay-per-views as well. With success comes ratings, and the inevitable addition of extra coverage, which leads us to the conundrum that we face today.
This month marks fifteen years since WWE bought out WCW. In the time since then, there’s been books written about the demise of WCW, how WWE has struggled to adapt without competition, and many words said about the general state of wrestling post-WCW. Whilst it’s obvious that the big dog isn’t as big as it once was, it’s not exactly fair to say that the entire pound isn’t as loud as it was in 2001.
It’s that time again, as we continue our search on the world wide web for alternatives to the current WWE product. This week, we’ll be changing tack and looking at a few random matches from the wide archives on the WWE Network.
