Kenny Omega returned to action as New Japan’s annual tie-in with Ring of Honor kicked off on Sunday in Tokyo, with the first night of Honor Rising.
When I first started really following independent wrestling in 2004, the first promotion I started watching was Ring of Honor. Seeing my first show live in the front row (okay, next to the aisle), it was a night-and-day change from the WWE product that I’d been watching for over a decade by that point.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that it’s WrestleMania Season. In the past decade, WrestleMania Weekend has become something of a magnet for independent promotions to “piggyback” on the biggest show of the year.

Another option out there comes from Ring of Honor, who for the last few years have made their weekly television show available for free via their website.
In most of the wrestling world, it’s extremely rare for promotions of any size to work together. New Japan seems to be the exception, as in January, they held four shows with the Mexican CMLL promotion, and this weekend they held two shows in Korakuen Hall in league with Ring of Honor.
