Flying back to the Collective now to take a look at the opener from GCW & JCW vs. The World…
The VOD for this show on Triller TV+ is a little weird, so rather than half-do a review, I’m going to cherry pick matches… this one’s from the Collective’s base at Penns Landing Caterers, with commentary from Nick Knowledge and Veda Scott.
Jordan Oliver vs. Aigle Blanc
These two had a cracker of a match by all accounts at Rixe in France back in January – ending in a no-contest – before Aigle Blanc beat Oliver just this past weekend in Newcastle, England at NORTH. Feels like a quick turnaround for this trilogy, huh?
Aigle Blanc gets some streamers for his entrance, which caught me by surprise!
Once we had someone to ring the bell, we got going with a rather partisan crowd behind Oliver, as AIgle’s opening hammerlock was countered out of the pair went back and forth with takedowns and escapes. A monkey flip from Oliver’s styled out of by Aigle, whose leapfrog seconds later was booted away by the former JCW champion.
An early attempt at the Acid Bomb was countered with headscissors by Aigle, who runs into a chop… then returned with a rolling elbow and a snap Dragon suplex. Aigle’s springboard gets dropkicked away as a lofty bridging German suplex nearly won it for Oliver early on. Chops keep Aigle in the corners, before Aigle pushed away a tornado DDT… and ate a superkick for it.
Oliver tries a German suplex, but Aigle flips free ahead of a springboard crossbody, while a ripcord enziguiri and a twister suplex had Oliver in trouble. Aigle looks for the Desert Eagle, but it’s countered with a roll-up as Oliver continued to mark up the Frenchman with chops ahead of that tornado DDT for a enar-fall.
A faked-out superkick surprises Aigle, but he pushes away a Clout Cutter attempt and followed up with a ‘rana driver through the ropes. Oliver heads outside but gets met with a moonsault, before a 450 splash back inside was rolled away from… except Aigle hadn’t leapt yet, so he just readjusts and goes coast to coast on Oliver.
From there, a tombstone spikes Oliver for a near-fall, before Aigle went back up top for that 450 splash. Oliver avoids it, then met Aigle with a chop as another crack at the Acid Bomb was fought out of. Instead, Oliver goes up for a superplex, but Aigle counters with the twisting superplex instead, before a follow-up suplex saw the pair spill over the top rope to the floor… with Oliver hanging on to add a brainbuster on the outside.
Back inside, Aigle counters a Clout Cutter into a German suplex out of the corner, before a wicked clothesline clattered into Jordan. A springboard back in from Aigle goes nowhere as Oliver hits the Clout Cutter anyway for a near-fall, before the Acid Bomb led to another near-fall out of the corner.
Heading up top again, Oliver’s top rope ‘rana’s caught and turned into an Alley Oop onto the top turnbuckle, while a springboard DDT planted Oliver onto the side of the ring. Aigle picks up the pace for a 450 splash back inside, but it’s still not enough, as Aigle proceeds to fake out a superkick. Oliver falls for it, but counters a springboard out of the corner into a cutter, before the pair fought on the top rope.
Aigle shoves down Oliver, but Jordan’s right back at him for an elevated Acid Bomb for the win.
Result: Jordan Oliver pinned Aigle Blanc in 11:33 (***¾)
A really good opener that’ll have me hunting down the Rixe and North matches after this weekend – Oliver and Aigle gel real well together, and based on their rapid-fire series of matches, I’d not be surprised if this developed into a longer-running rivalry.
