Time for something different – as Jordon Breaks and Gideon Grey took to the mat in a Pure Rules outing.
It’s another match from their September show at the Merton Arts Space in Wimbledon…
We’ve got promo beforehand, with Gideon Grey taking umbrage at how highly Jordon Breaks is spoken of as a wrestler, compared to the “just a manager” jibes he got. Grey brings up how “you don’t go to Japan by being a funny guy”, and offered himself up as a text for Breaks.
Pure Rules: Gideon Grey vs. Jordan Breaks
We’re running under ROH-style pure rules, with the rope breaks and all…
Breaks was the first champion in Purpose, but got baited into burning a rope break within thirty seconds as Gideon locked up with him into the ropes. Jordon returns the favour instantly, before the pair shook hands… sans any cheapshots. Grey tries to rake the face to get out of a wristlock, but Breaks takes him to the mat… only for Gideon to grab the head and feet of Breaks in a stretch. Breaks tries to go to the eyes to escape a side headlock, but had more luck with an armbar counter, before Gideon sat down on a Magistral cradle attempt to eke out a two-count.
A front chancery from Grey had Breaks strangled briefly, as things headed back to the mat for more wristlocks from Grey. The crowd seemingly distract Grey, allowing Breaks to counter out with an armbar of his own, working over the shoulder as well… but Grey sneaks in a rear naked choke that Breaks broke in the ropes. He’s down to one of those now… but so’s Gideon, as the ref rules he’d gotten into the ropes to break Jordon’s attempt at countering by going for the fingers. That feels a little sketchy…
Resuming with an ankle pick, Grey ties up Breaks for a Dragon sleeper… that quickly goes all SANADA-like thanks to Breaks’ smooth head, so Grey instead maneuvers his way in for a half-hatch suplex. A cravat takes Breaks back down for some pinning attempts, before Grey torqued on Breaks’ wrist…
A roll through reverses the hold as Breaks’ double underhook suplex took Gideon across the ring. Breaks hits the ropes for a sunset flip of the middle rope, but rather than go for the ropes, Gideon steadied himself and grabbed a triangle armbar, which ends with Breaks getting a foot to the ropes as he burned his last break. On the offensive, Breaks came back off the ropes with a sunset flip, rolling through for a Sharpshooter… pulling Grey away from the ropes as he went. An attempt to reapply the hold sees Grey fight free, but Breaks finds another opening with a mounted rear naked choke… which Grey broke with some wrist manipulation… only for Breaks to hit a swinging breaker out of nowhere for a two-count.
Breaks stays on Grey with a European uppercut before a mounted guillotine was quickly broken as Gideon grabbed the ropes. That’s his final rope break, and I guess both men can now use the ropes with impunity… although Breaks still had to let go of the hold. Gideon stretches Breaks over the ropes, but gets caught with a Cobra Twist through the ropes… not sure if that would could since by rights a ring-out ten count should be going. Nevertheless, Gideon slips out and elbowed free then caught Breaks with a guillotine through the ropes… Breaks slips free and counters back, choking Gideon against the top rope for the quick submission.
Result: Jordon Breaks submitted Gideon Grey in 9:40 (***¼)
