Live from Hokkaido, the 26th G1 Climax is underway! With 91 tournament matches spread over 19 shows, the G1 is a notoriously tough tournament to compete in, and this year’s edition is expected to be no different, particularly for guys coming whose injury status is already questionable (cough Hiroshi Tanahashi cough).

The relatively short Kizuna Run tour ended in Iwate on Sunday, with New Japan’s final show before the G1 Climax got underway, with the NEVER titles taking centre stage for today’s card.
Now, we tend not to make a point of reviewing every random New Japan show – New Japan World only puts the notable cards on their service, afterall. However, Monday’s Korakuen Hall card was going to be notable for the fact that this would be where the competitors in this year’s G1 Climax were to be revealed.
It’s barely been a fortnight since Will Ospreay won the Best of Super Juniors tournament, but he – and the rest of the New Japan crew – were back in action earlier on Sunday for their annual Dominion event at Osaka-Jo Hall.
This year’s Best of Super Junior tournament wrapped up on Tuesday in Sendai, with a sensational final between Ryusuke Taguchi and Will Ospreay.
Monday evening saw the Best of Super Junior tournament blocks come to their conclusion, with Sendai playing host to the final round robin matches.
The unusual surroundings of New Sunpia Takasaki in Gunma was our well-lit venue for Sunday’s block B action, as the penultimate round of block matches from the Best of Super Junior got underway.
We’re back at Korakuen Hall for the eleventh day of Best of Super Junior action, and it’s block A taking centre stage for the first of four live cards on New Japan World as this year’s tournament draws to a close, with an unexpected (and unwanted) surprise in the middle of the card.
